A MIDSUMMER NIGHTMARE:
AUTUMN 2018 SHOW
The Royal Holloway Shakespeare Society just want to put on a production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, but things seem to keep going wrong. The society’s president, Tarquin-Ann Richardson the Third, is struggling to maintain control over the band of misfits that make up the cast, and, very soon, his dream show turns into a slapstick disaster.
Shakespeare Soc’s Autumn term production, ‘A Midsummer’s Nightmare’ will be created in collaboration with the cast, using both Shakespeare’s original script and devised action.

Audition Monologue:
Thou speak'st aright;
I am that merry wanderer of the night.
I jest to Oberon and make him smile
When I a fat and bean-fed horse beguile,
Neighing in likeness of a filly foal:
And sometime lurk I in a gossip's bowl,
In very likeness of a roasted crab,
And when she drinks, against her lips I bob
And on her wither'd dewlap pour the ale.
The wisest aunt, telling the saddest tale,
Sometime for three-foot stool mistaketh me;
Then slip I from her bum, down topples she,
And 'tailor' cries, and falls into a cough;
And then the whole quire hold their hips and laugh,
And waxen in their mirth and neeze and swear
A merrier hour was never wasted there.
But, room, fairy! here comes Oberon.

Writing Society ANATT Collaboration
What if the stories of Shakespeare's most beloved characters didn't end with their deaths? What if they found themselves in a strange afterlife, trapped in a tavern with a mysterious barman and each other? A comical musing including famous Shakespearean characters like Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Anthony and Cleopatra and many more, 'Not to Be' is a collaboration between Shakespeare Society and Writing Society to put on the first three scenes of this original play as part of the Creative Arts Showcase 'A Night at the Theatre'.
